Discussion:
CinemaSix 1.0 Beta

CinemaSix 1.0 Beta is now available!

This release is hopefully the best release yet, and pretty good from a
spit and polish perspective!

Unfortunately, there are still problems with lipsync on AC3 DVDs and
ReplayTV MPEG compatibility did not make it into this release (please use
the ReplayTV CinemaSix binary that Philip Van Baren released). There have
been a huge number of changes since 0.9 (some externally noticeable, many
behind the scenes in preparation for great things to come in the future);
read the README.

You can grab the release from http://www.up.org/cinemasix
The source is available from SourceForce as well.

Unless there is something seriously wrong with this release, I won't be
making another release until the end of July. Hopefully I can make 1-2
month release cycles from here forward.

Can you point me to documentation on the best (and preferably easiest)
way to set up vlc to work with CinemaSix?

I'm trying the streaming right now using:

server side:

vlc -vvv myth/tps/The_Simpsons_\[Co-Dependents_Day\]_2004-06-27.tps
--sout '#standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=your_machine:8080}'

(where tps is the raw ATSC file from the pcHDTV card.)

and using the new CinemaSix Beta to stream the
"http://your_machine:8080"
the video works great and does seem to be get past the 2/4GB file limit.

However, there's no audio. :(

If I send with vlc using the "mux=ps", I get audio but really choppy
video and the CinemaSix crashes/hangs.

Audio plays fine when I connect with an another instance of VLC on a
separate machine.

I've tried running the file through dtvstream and mux=ts and mux=ps
without much luck.

Try a MPEG 2 file and see if streaming that works ok. I extensively
testing ts muxed DVD files and had good success.

Let me know what you find.

Has anyone tried playing Tivo files (.ty extension)? I believe they're in a format similar to mpeg2...

If we can get those to play that would make me a happy man!

I'm experiencing some wierd behavior with this build and program
streams. Throughout a movie I get about 10 "pauses". Might be decoder
resets, not sure exactly. Screen will go black and audio stops for
probably less than a second then everything comes back. Problem is that
lip sync is lost and if you had chosen one of the other than default
aspect ratios (like stretch to screen) it goes back to the default.
Substitute 0.9 and no such problems. Just an FYI.

When timestamps go backward in the video (which technically shouldn't
happen, but it does a lot on DVDs), I have to force the decoder to reset
completely otherwise it completely knocks the lipsync off. This shouldn't
happen once the actual title begins, but if it does, please let me know
which DVD it happens on.

The aspect ratio problem is an easy fix, I'll fix that tonight. I'm
working more on lipsync tonight, but it's much harder.
