Any Hope for Smooth Zoom In / Out

We discussed this awhile ago and I was just wondering if there was
any hope for this in the future? It would sure be nice to be able to do
a smooth(er) zoom in and out during slide shows.

I would never say never, but it's not likely. The hardware zoom stuff that
we're using has a certain granularity to it that is not divisible well. The
other solution we had hoped to use turned out to hit a bug in the chip. :-(
