CinemaSix 1.2 beta Developer-only preview

I've put 1.2 beta up, but with no public links to it (it's a developer
preview only):

http://www.up.org/cinemasix/CinemaSix1.2beta.zip

I'll release 1.3 by end of week (skipping 1.2 for the world at large)...

Sorry to be beating you guys to death with releases, but it's worth it.

This release of CinemaSix is dramatically better at DVD lipsync, fixes VOB
to VOB transition, includes automatic title selection and chapter
navigation. Just play the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file instead of a VOB. The one
bug is that the DVD usually starts in the wrong aspect because it tries to
play the 4:3 menus. Just hit chapter forward and then INFO to fix the
aspect.

See the detailed README & CHANGELOG for more. Feedback would be
appreciated. Sorry, no progress on transport stream problems (DVD
playback is my top priority and this took a huge part of the night).

No luck with playing via the IFO file (tried quite a few with the same
results). From the GUI after selecting the VIDEO_TS.IFO file the
"Please Wait" comes up for a second then CinemaSix exits. From the
command line I can see that it opens the IFO and parses much of the data
but encounters an error in libdvdread at the same line for every title I
tried. Here's the console output:

# CinemaSix.cmd /mnt/smb/media/media/DVD/Frequency/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO

Can you give me a "ls -l" of the video_ts directory?

This is wierd that it can't open the file correctly. Anyone else have
feedback? I tried about 20 DVDs and they all worked.

Can you give me a "ls -l" of the video_ts directory?
This is wierd that it can't open the file correctly. Anyone else have
feedback? I tried about 20 DVDs and they all worked.

I've put 1.2 beta up, but with no public links to it (it's a
developer
http://www.up.org/cinemasix/CinemaSix1.2beta.zip

I've put 1.2 beta up, but with no public links to it (it's a
developer
http://www.up.org/cinemasix/CinemaSix1.2beta.zip

Hey Sujal,

This is very exciting!

I'm still seeing lip sync issues with every DVD I tried, both for
Stereo Downmix and Direct Digital Output.
Hitting the rotate key didn't seem to matter. (8 Mile, Akira, Clerks,
Indiana Jones ROTLA).

Transport streams from an pcHDTV looked great, no lip syncing issues
(Direct Digital Output).

It might be nice if hitting "next track" button from the menu's tool
one to chapter 1 instead of chapter 2.
The only way i can figure to get to chapter 1 is to wait for the menu's
to stop looping. Not sure if this is feasible.
Otherwise chapter navigation seems to work fine.

One final thought. Until the file size limitations are overcome in the
Roku itself, the only way to play large files is via VLC and http
streaming. I've had good luck getting this to work with CinemaSix,
however, entering the URL is a tad painful. Might be nice to have 1)
have the "play recent URLs" items re-sort themselves if one uses them
over and over and/or 2) since the URLs don't really change frequently
have a separate "play recent URLs", or "URL bookmarks".

Hope this feedback is valuable. Keep the releases coming. :)

Thanks,

Taylor

I watched Spider-man with my wife using 1.2 last night. Some
observations:

1) No problem just choosing the VIDEO_TS.IFO from the GUI - worked great
2) Chapter navigation worked fine
3) Lip sync was great - right up until we had to hit pause to take a
phone call. After that, it was spotty, and drifted in and out.
Hitting Rotate to reestablish was not always successful.
4) Had a couple of times when the video/audio would "freeze" up
momentarily - stop and start a few times, and then continue on without
intervention. Could be some issue on my network, but I have a
completely switched gigabit network with no other load on the server at
the time.
5) All in all - it was an experience that nearly achieved WAF (wife
acceptance factor). Thanks Sujal!
