I've done that (to set up a static IP address). Look in the manual and
you'll see that you can telnet into the Soundbridge using port 4444.
manually which should let you do what you want.
doesn't come with one.
Post by Sherrill MartinDon,
I seem to remember a similar problem getting my replayTV to work on
this network. In that case, I could manually enter the gateway and
DNS values. It appears to be posible with the Soundbridge using the
CF card. Is manual entry possible for the ethernet input?
Sherrill,
You got a link-local (also known as auto-config) IP address
when using your ethernet to wireless adapter.
I was able to determine this by noticing your netmask
was 255.255.0.0. You'll also note that your IP address
would have started with 169.254.
This is what happens when SoundBridge does not get a DHCP
address. It is part of zero-configuration networking
( www.zeroconf.org ) which allows computers to work in the
absence of a DHCP server.
In your case, you wanted to get a DHCP address but did not.
The most likely cause is that your adapter is not configured
properly and is not connecting to your wireless network as you
expect.
Connect the adapter to your computer and verify that it works
there, configuring if necessary. When it is working properly
when connected to your computer, connect it to your
SoundBridge and try again.

Adapter Difficulties
Anthony,
Maybe here is a clue.
Netmask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1
DNS1 192.168.2.1
MAC and IP address OK
Netmask 255.255.0.0
Gateway 0.0.0.0
DNS1 0.0.0.0
Adapter is set for DHCP.
Does this shed any light?
Sherrill
Hi Sherrill,
http://www.rokulabs.com/support/sbaccesspoints.php
Have you updated the firmware in your Access Point to the
latest version?
When we tested this AP we found that certain firmware
versions did not work
with the SoundBridge. There are an amazing number of bugs
out there in
various APs.

Subject: [Roku-tech] Soundbridge: Wireless Ethernet Adapter
Difficulties
Mike,
Didn't help. My system is PC with an SMC2804WBR(G) wireless router.
The adapters I have tried are an SMC2670W which has been
working fine
with a ReplayTV and a D-Link DWL-G810 which I have been
using with my
HD1000.
As I have said, it works fine if I plug it directly into the 2804
through a cable.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Sherrill
Sherrill, have you tried rebooting the SoundBridge when you see the
"connection to server failed" message? There is a very
rare case that
can
cause this message to appear and it can only be cleared by
rebooting.
Best,
--Mike
There ARE! If I hadn't been taking siesta when it
arrived, son, I might
have been the first.
Works fine on ethenet connection, problems so far with wireless to
ethernet adapter. It finds iTunes, but then says
connection to server
failed. To get that far I had to disable my firewalls
(gulp). Maybe
I'll just have to get a compactflash wifi card.

I second that. They are very different products and I
can see where
those who only own one or the other would be annoyed.
Just imagine when there are two of us Soundbridge owners
out here ;-)
