Soundbridge: 2 new bugs

I found 2 new bugs with my Soundbridge:

1.) Using Soundbridge with Slim Server and Slim Server set to German
language, the special characters on the Soundbridge display are mixed up.
F.e. "Hauptmenü" is displayed as "Hauptmenö"
As Softsqueeze's display is correct, I assume, Slim Server and Soundbridge
use different character encoding.

2.) Using Soundbridge with iTunes: When I added several songs to the song
queue of a freshly powered up Soundbridge (no songs actually playing) and
then choose "display song queue" for the first time, Soundbridge displays
the screen from "now playing" instead of the song queue:
------------------------------------------------
no songs selected
Press Menu to choose songs
------------------------------------------------

The first time I thought the "add to song queue" didn't work but afterwards
(by pressing down arrow) I found, that songs are in the queue but
Soundbridge simply displays the wrong screen. As I said, this only happens
the first time you display a populated song queue after power on.

Peter,

Thanks for posting these bugs... there is a character encoding discrepancy
between the SoundBridge and the Squeezebox -- we'll try to sort that out
asap.

I'm unable to reproduce the second bug, however. Here are my steps:

1. remove power, re-power
2. let SB auto-connect to iTunes server
3. Browse by Artist
4. Highlight artist name, hit ADD button, songs get added
5. select Show Song Queue

and the newly added songs are listed after these steps. I also tried adding
individual songs as well, with the same results.

Are you sure you're selecting Show Song Queue instead of just exiting back
to the Now Playing screen? I think it is a bug that the Now Playing screen
says "No songs selected" in this case -- it should just say "Playlist
stopped" or something like that, since you actually *have* selected songs --
but the Song Queue appears to work fine for me.

Thanks,
-Dan

It is a bug, and it's already in the bug database! :-)

Ok, investigated a little bit more. It is actually 2 bugs working together.

First, as you've mentioned, the Now Playing screen is wrong, it should say
"Playlist stopped" or something like that. That's the easy one to spot.

Second, I really selected Show Song Queue in Menu and not Now Playing and
I'm not exiting back to the Now Playing screen. But watching the display
when selecting Show Song Queue I've realized, the songs in the song queue
are displayed for a fraction of a second then the (wrong) Now Playing screen
appears. It's like I would have selected Now Playing immediately after
Show Song Queue. Thinking of what can trigger a Now Playing screen
automatically, I remembered the "Show Now Playing when idle" preference.
This was enabled so far. I disabled it and - the bug vanished. Furthermore I
found, that the "Show Now Playing when idle" doesn't work while the Show
Song Queue bug is active (usually lasts until you start playback or view the
song queue with arrow down).
So, if you view the song queue but do not start playback, the Show Song
Queue bug vanishes, e.g. the songs in the queue are listed properly. But if
you have the "Show Now Playing when idle" preference enabled and wait some
time until the idle trigger should switch to the Now Playing, nothing
happens, instead the so far vanished Show Song Queue bug reappeares.

It looks like the idle counter isn't handled properly, when no playback has
been started. It doesn't trigger the switch to the Now Playing screen with
the one exception, the Show Song Queue screen, where it triggers an
immediately switch to the Now Playing screen not waiting for the idle
timeout at all.

Hope this helps.

Great sleuthing, Peter! I've reproduced the bug now, thanks. yep, looks
like if you do nothing for 30 seconds with the menu up before you have any
music playing, then you enter the song queue, it will vanish as soon as you
enter it and dump you back at the Now Playing screen.

I'll enter it into our bugbase right away, and hopefully get a fix into our
next release.

Thanks,
-Dan

Cool. I can tell you exactly why that's happening. It's an interaction
with the feature that auto-returns to the Now Playing screen after a delay.
Something isn't getting reset, so this should be easy to fix.

Thanks,

Yup. This is what happens when your mail reader gives you mail out of
