No Problems with DVArchive Client except

Just a few basic suggestions from my experience with DVAClient:

-I think it is best you be on the latest version of Roku OS (1.5.18)

-When you edit the DVAClient.roku script to insert your ReplayTV IP names or
addresses, make sure you remove the # at the beginning of ONE of the
REPLAYLIST= lines.

-I put the exact contents of Phil's ZIP file on a network share, edited
DVAClient.roku and it worked for me. I am using it in the mode where it
connects directly to my two Replay 5000 units.

QUESTION FOR PHIL:

- Can you have a DVArchive host and two Replay units on the REPLAYLIST?

- Lip sync is not very good, even after pressing "ROTATE". I suspect this
is a problem with the current version of CinemaSix.

- KUDOS to you Phil, this is a great addition to the HD1K!
Hi Phil -
Thanks for doing this.
Unfortunately, I played with it for about 30 minutes - but I was unable to
o DVAClient seemed to ignore the REPLAYLIST setting
that I placed in the DVAClient.roku shell script
It kept trying to use "dvarchive" as the host name.
It wouldn't locate my Replays. (Yes, everything was
entered into /tmp/hosts
o Firing up a DVArchive on a PC and then trying to
force DVAClient to read from that did nothing either.
DVAClient was constantly looking for access to the
server on port 8042... DVArchive itself has a bug
that was preventing me from changing the port to
anything other than 80... and DVAClient wouldn't
allow me to change from port 8042 to 80. So, no good
there.
o Nothing was written to the /tmp directory. Nothing.
Not the log from DVAClient or CinemaSix. (I resorted
to firing it from the command line)
o It wouldn't fire from the onscreen icon. After a little
investigation, it was because it didn't seem to be
accepting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable, so it couldn't
find the .so library. (Could this be related to the
first point? It isn't reading from DVAClient.roku?)
I am on version 1.5.15 of the Roku OS.
Um...that's about it. Sorry man - I couldn't get it to go.

Yes. In this case (with multiple units defined on the command line) the
DVArchive host will be treated like a standard replaytv unit, and DVAClient
will ask for only its locally stored shows. I've found that with DVArchive
3.0, the very first time you try to access it after starting up DVArchive on
your PC, DVArchive doesn't respond and also doesn't close down the network
connection. As a result, DVAClient will hang waiting for a response. This
only happens once after DVArchive starts up, so as long as DVArchive keeps
running on the PC it will work fine for subsequent attempts. I'm working on a
fix for this.

is a problem with the current version of CinemaSix.
The lip sync issue has to do with the feeding of data to the MPEG2 decoder,
which is part of CinemaSix. I added streaming access from ReplayTVs, and do
re-interleave the video and audio packets on the ReplayTV stream (which helped
the lip sync quite a bit) but the actually feeding of the decoder chip by
CinemaSix is unchanged. I'm hoping that Sujal will be able to solve some more
of the lip sync problems on the decoder side, or that Roku will reveal some
more of their Streamplayer "secrets" so this problem can be fixed.

Also, this may depend on your level of acceptance. Initially I was getting lip
sync errors measured in seconds when playing ReplayTV files. Now (for me,
anyway) it is off enough to be noticable if you look for it, but not enough to
be confusing, probably on the order of 100 msec. I would rate my results as
"good" but not "very good".

Phil
