sort photos by file timestamp?

is there a way to tell the photo application to sort by file
timestamp rather than file name? if i rename the photos
then they don't display in chronological order any longer.

also, i was running strings on the photo binary and
i see there is a -p option that is described
as "Start in playlist mode". this seems very intriguing.
does anybody know anything about this?
